From May 7-9, 2024, the European Economic Congress in Katowice, Poland, became a melting pot of ideas, innovation… Spearheaded by Nooran Albannay, behind Coffee Architecture and Section Coffee Roaster, her journey at the Congress was not just about showcasing the products but also about embedding the rich Emirati culture into every cup that they have served. Let’s hear more about the event and her highlights from Poland:

Empowering Women, One Cup at a Time

This year, under the vibrant lights of the European Economic Congress, a coffee bar stood out distinctly. It wasn't just any coffee station, but one where the aroma of freshly brewed coffee blended with a powerful story of female leadership. I, alongside my incredible teammates, Ghalya Alrowahi and Shayma Albannay, took charge of every detail, from grinding the beans to serving the perfect cup. As Emirati women, we were not just participants in the coffee industry; we led from the front, showcasing a blend of rich tradition and modern sophistication. Our hands, though delicate, were firm on the espresso machine, our smiles as warm as the coffee we served, proving that empowerment can indeed start with a single cup of coffee.

Brewing Tradition with Arabic Gahwa

Serving Arabic Gahwa at the Congress was a privilege that went beyond mere hospitality; it was a celebration of my heritage. This traditional coffee, whose secrets were whispered to me by my grandmother, became a bridge connecting cultures. Each cup carried a story, a whisper of the Emirati  history and the warmth of our people. As delegates from around the world sipped the Gahwa, they were no longer just attendees but guests in the grand narrative of the Emirates.

VIP Encounters and Global Connections

The event also became a stage for significant encounters. Serving distinguished guests like H.E Rashed Albloosi, we fostered connections that extended beyond commerce to cultural exchange. A landmark meeting with the Brazilian Minister not only explored potential collaborations with female-operated coffee farms but also sowed the seeds for future ventures that promise to flourish.

The Joy of Serving

The Congress days buzzed with an incredible energy, as early as 6:30 AM, with enthusiasts lined up before our official opening. Their anticipation and the ultimate joy in their expressions upon tasting our coffee were profoundly rewarding. "This is the best coffee I've ever had!"—each such exclamation was a testament to our passion and dedication, fuelling our spirits to serve even better.

Gratitude and Team Spirit

With over 200 cups served daily by Ghalya, Shayma, and me, our booth was a whirlwind of activity. Each Dalla of Gahwa was prepared with meticulous care, embodying the spirit of our team. This collective effort was a dance of coordination and affection, powered by the unity and strength among us. Special thanks to Slama Almansoni, whose support was crucial in making this mission a reality.

As we packed up our coffee bar, we left not just as participants but as ambassadors of Emirati culture and champions of women's empowerment in the coffee industry. Alhamdulillah, every step we took was guided by support and blessings, and every cup we served carried a piece of our hearts…
